1980 Ch Scotia Slightly Vain.jpg

The Project - Scotties in OZ.

A joint project between
The Scottish Terrier Club of Victoria &
The Scottish Terrier Club Inc, NSW

As part of the Breed Extension Review Group, Eva Karlik and Geoff Dryden were asked to review the draft Introduction to the ANKC Breed Extension.  This covers why Scotties were bred and a short history. The period up to the 1940s is relatively well covered but the written story after the World War II is very sketchy and disjointed. This made us start to think we need to get the story down now!

The older members will know most of the facts off top of their heads and some of it is recorded in publications such as Tartan Tidings and The STC Yearbook. More recently show information is available on the STC Website. The problem is trying to put together a complete picture before it’s too late.

Text Box: This Scottie won BOB at a Royal. Who is she, which year, which Royal?
One person knows, but no one else!

Eva and Geoff would like to coordinate the capture of all information, written, in photos and peoples memory for the whole of Australia.  Very ambitious! The advent of computers will make the collation easier than in years gone by, but this is still a major undertaking. If you want to know more,

The information we are looking at is

·   Registered Scotties with their Pedigree.

·   Major show wins. Focussing on STC and STCV shows and the Royals.

·   Office Bearers of the two clubs.

·   Photographs of Scotties, events and members.

The information recorded in on the club website since 2001 and the ANKC Registration information will be a good start, but there is a lot of time and effort required if we are going to have a concise history of our breed for future generations.

The resulting information will be published as part of the STCV 60th Anniversary next year and the STC Inc 75th Anniversary in 2012. We will create a way of storing the information so it can be easily updated into the future as history never stands still.

We still need to work out details, but perhaps a DVD which runs off a computer or even a DVD Player may be the best way of sharing the information.  Copies will be given to the ANKC, Dogs NSW and Dogs Victoria Library and archived. We think it will be too expensive to use a website to share the information as we hope to have many many photos.

We can however use the website to gather all the information which will allow almost every member to get involved.

The links on the left hand side take you to the list of current information  (this is a shortened list so it will fit on the web). If you know of other dogs, breeders or events or can fill out some of the missing information, use the forms as input.

The forms on the left side can be use by anyone.

If you would like to participate or know more talk to Eva (evakarlik@yahoo.com ) or Geoff (Geoff@robscott.com.au )
